Woolen Textiles of North India— Wrap-around Garments in the Himalayan Mountains

With Kashmir in the north, Punjab in the west and Tibet to the east, the state of Himachal Pradesh is a mountainnous region surrounded by forests.The Patou,which is made by local women, using their own sheep. Simple but charming design done by them,and Influenced by Tibetan motifs. And the Kashmir shawl, of double interlocking twill tapestry, makes full use of various patterns including paisleys,the full moon pattern, stripes, and flowers. Kashmir shawls are handed down through generation with the greatest of care. Worn spots and tears are carefully repaired by craftsmen specialist.We will exhibit approximately 70 pieces.
