Andean Textiles and Latin American Costumes — From Ancient period to the Present day
August 4th - November 12th, 2016
This exhibition will show you the textile heritage of the ancient Andean people as well as the cultural traditions in the present day’s costumes of Peru, Bolivia, Guatemala, Mexico, and Amazonia.
When I first visited long ago in 1965 I adored the Andes. Pre-Incan fabric was omething far beyond my imagination. I walked through a number of ruins, villages, and viewed the Amano museum collection. It has taken me 50 long years to understand the technical and historical implications of those pieces I first started to collect piece by piece.
As my appreciation of the richness of these pieces has increased over the years I have also acquired some contemporary costumes, which demonstrate the rich textile traditions of South America.
I hope you will enjoy them.
